What a night at the 2024 GRAMMYs! Billie Eilish snagged the coveted Song of the Year award for her hit track, “What Was I Made For?” from the ‘Barbie’ soundtrack. The singer, alongside her talented brother and co-writer FINNEAS, triumphed over a star-studded competition including Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, Jon Batiste, Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, SZA, and Olivia Rodrigo.
In her acceptance speech, Billie expressed her shock, saying, “Damn, dude! I’m shocked out of my balls!” She graciously acknowledged her fellow nominees, recognizing the incredible talent in the category.
Billie had earlier graced the GRAMMYs stage with a performance of the winning song, captivating the audience with her musical prowess. This wasn’t the only win for “What Was I Made For?” as it also clinched the award for Best Song Written for Visual Media. The entire ‘Barbie’ soundtrack, titled Barbie The Album and produced by Mark Ronson, Brandon David, and Kevin Weaver, secured another victory by winning Best Compilation Soundtrack for Media.
Eilish didn’t forget to express her gratitude to Barbie director Greta Gerwig, thanking her for “making the best movie of the year.” The accolades don’t stop there – the song is also in the running for Best Original Song at the upcoming Academy Awards and has already taken home the Golden Globe for Best Original Song in January.
Billie Eilish continues to solidify her place as a musical powerhouse, and with “What Was I Made For?” she has not only created a chart-topping hit but also a song that resonates with audiences across various platforms.
