Cruise : Drunk Passenger Hurls Furniture into Baltic Waters
A video has gone viral, depicting the reckless actions of a 25-year-old man identified as Otto Kranni, the manager of Finnish construction company Pimura Oy. The footage, originally shared on TikTok, captured Kranni and his construction crew engaging in disruptive and environmentally harmful behavior aboard the MS Baltic Princess cruise ferry.
The video showcased Kranni and his colleagues throwing chairs and tables off the cruise ferry balcony into the pristine waters of the Baltic Sea. The alarming act of littering not only raised environmental concerns but also prompted widespread condemnation on social media platforms, including Reddit and Twitter.
The cruise ferry, operated by Tallink Silja, was en route from Turku, Finland, to Stockholm, Sweden, when the incident occurred. The construction crew, having consumed alcohol for a continuous 12 hours, not only engaged in the wanton destruction of furniture but also reportedly urinated in the ferry’s sauna and exhibited inappropriate behavior at the bar.
The consequences for Kranni were swift and severe. Following the video’s viral spread on the internet, he faced a $10,000 fine. Although Tallink Silja has not filed criminal charges, Kranni’s fellow construction workers were banned from traveling on all Tallink Silja ships for a year.
Beyond personal penalties, the incident has cast a dark shadow on Pimura Oy, the construction company managed by Kranni. Local reports indicate a significant downturn in the company’s reputation, with businesses reluctant to associate with Pimura Oy. One contractor even halted construction work with the company due to the notoriety surrounding the incident.
In an attempt to address the public outrage, Kranni made appearances on the Valavuori Live TV program. However, his initial attempt at humor, suggesting they would “laugh about things” at the construction site, only fueled the public’s ire. In a subsequent appearance, Kranni stressed that he had learned his lesson and did not intend to “cause such a mess.” He pledged that Pimura Oy would make a donation towards the protection of the Baltic Sea, acknowledging the environmental impact of their actions.
As the repercussions of this reckless escapade continue to unfold, it serves as a stark reminder of the far-reaching consequences that individuals and businesses may face when their actions not only jeopardize the environment but also compromise public safety and trust.
